Okayness
It's funny, sometimes when things are just kind of ‘going’. I have nothing to write. I guess it’s kind of like an emotional void. My emotions fuel my writing. I’m not sad, happy, joyful, angry, frustrated, or miserable right now. I guess that leaves me feeling a little curious with a touch of ah-ha and a dash of confusion. I like this place though I’m not super familiar with it. I guess I’m feeling fine, but not in the FINE way...maybe I’m good. That could be it. Good? Okay? Sure. But where does that leave me for this post? I suppose good is a good thing. There’s room here to be content. I was given this gift by a missed appointment by a client. My second one today. The first frustrated me, then I reminded myself everything is happening for me, so I got some groceries and handled some insurance stuff I’d been putting off for oooh, months. That felt nice. This second one is clearly being allocated to my writing.
I’ve noticed that my clients can also feel confused with this space. Sometimes I call it the in-between time or the meantime. It seems as if we’re not freaking out about problems or overwhelmed with stress, putting fires out, or on top of the world from something good we don’t know what to do or how to handle it. It’s nice to enjoy the nothingness of this space for a little bit. It might only last a minute or two, it could last a week or two. Some might call it mundane, or boring, routine or “it’s going”.
The opportunity here is to tune in. Life isn’t causing you to feel too much (reacting to things outside of you) so you can be intentional and just be okay for a bit. A vacation from the highs and lows for who knows how long.
If you’re unaware, you might inadvertently stir the pot. People like me, who like to feel lots of intense feelings will inevitably create something to feel something and if I’m not intentional I’ll do it in a negative way. I’ll pick a fight with someone, I’ll go eat some unhealthy food and complain about it to you guys later, I’ll turn on the TV, I’ll look for problems so I can have one to solve. If I’m intentional in the meantime, I’ll use it to generate some variety in a positive way. I’ll meal prep, I’ll research things I love, I’ll do little things that bring happiness to others - surprises in the mail, I’ll take my dogs for a walk or get down on the ground and play with them. I’ll focus on developing a new habit or brainstorm ways to do more of what I love.
Be mindful of your meantime, use it intentionally and it becomes fertile ground for creation.
Haha, this writing doesn’t inspire anything in me - you can almost feel the okayness of it. I’m okay with that.
